About Alina Garcia
Alina and her parents escaped the oppressive Communist regime in their native Cuba and arrived in America penniless, yearning for nothing except to live free in the United States. Her mom, Elena, and her father, Lorenzo, worked meager jobs to put food on the table and provide a modest but decent life for their young family. Like many exiled families at first, it was very hard for the Garcias' to make ends meet and adjust to their new lives in the foreign country that adopted them. But with extraordinary determination and perseverance after a few short years, they were able to purchase their own home and become small business owners, allowing them to live the American Dream.
At an early age, Alina was taught the values of modesty, gratefulness, and a strong sense of selflessness, compelling her to give back to the community and the country that gave her and her parents so much.
Alina Garcia has had a distinguished, 30-year career in public service. Starting in 1992 as a Legislative Aide in Tallahassee. Alina has served under accomplished Republican leaders including, United States Senator Marco Rubio, City of Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo, City of Miami Commissioner Joe Carollo, and Florida's Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, among many others. She is especially proud to have served as U.S. Senator Rubio's first Legislative Aide when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1999. In her many professional roles, Alina has assisted in efforts to balance state and local government budgets and fight on behalf of our community's taxpayers and working families.
Ms. García is the proud mother of three, grandmother to
eleven wonderful grandchildren, and a strong woman of faith who is active in her local parish. She is particularly proud of her brother, The Honorable Monsignor Willie Pena who is the Pastor of Saint Bernardita in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Having raised her children as a single mom, Alina understands the struggles of hard-working families. She looks forward to advocating on their behalf and for our communities in the Florida House of Representative.
